Residential Diaphragm Gas Meter

The M4com is a compact residential diaphragm gas meter designed to measure accurately volumes of natural gas, LPG and all
non-corrosive gases.

M4Com is a residential gas meter which is manu-
factured by MANAS with the technology transfer
of Gallus2000. Gallus2000 has been produced by
Schlumberger / Actaris / Itron more than 60 milli-
on units installed in 30 years. From now on it will
be distributed to worldwide users as M4Com
under Itron licence.
M4Com is designed for measurement of natural
gas, hydrogen blended natural gas, LPG and all
non-corrosive gas fluids.
M4Com “c” series totalizer offers an inductive
pulse measurement technology which offers,
100% reliable and accurate measurement
against all kind of magnetic tampering, ideal for
AMR applications.

IMPORTANT BENEFITS

Gas enters one side of the diaphragm plate, while on
the other side it sluice through a separate port on the
valve. When one side is full, the rotating mono-valve
moves on to the next position, allowing the gas to fill
the empty side.

A transmission gear and mechanical coupling or
stuffing box transfer the reciprocating motion to the
mechanical, retrofittable index.
The measuring unit is housed in a robust, gas-tight
casing.

Application

M4Com production facility (100% originating from: Itron) based on 40 years and over sixty million meters of production experience and know-how

Metrology

The M4com meets O.I.M.L, EN 1359 and MID (Pending for MID certification from LNE), and more than 25 national metrological standards (DVGW, NMI Class 1… ) Its design and the careful choice of materials enable the M4com to meet the highest demand in international markets in terms of accuracy and long-term stability. During the preliminary test controls on the sonic nozzle test benches, all meters are tested at Qmin, O.2 Qmax and Qmax.

Operating Principle

The M4com is a positive displacement diaphragm gas meter with a stand-alone twin chamber measuring unit.
The twin chambers are each fitted with a flexible and gas- tight diaphragm which is moved by the differential between the inlet and outlet pressure. The gas enters one side of the diaphragm pan while on the other side it comes out through a separate port on the valve. When one side is full, the rotating mono-valve moves on to the next position, allowing the gas to fill the empty side. A transmission gear and a mechanical coupling or stuffing box transfer the reciprocating motion to the mechanical retrofittable index.
The measuring unit is housed in a robust gas- tight casing.

Construction

1- Measuring Unit

The measuring unit has 1.2 dm
volume. It was manufactured with the
materials which has the least surface
roughness to provide high endurance
for reducing wear and increasing the
life time.
Measuring unit consists of bellow
components

High-tech design tools have been used
in the design of the fixed-stroke,
long-proven measuring group mecha-
nism and high-quality mechanical
automation has been achieved.

M4Com provides a perfect stability
and accuracy of measurement through
its whole lifetime due to unique design
of measurement mechanisms and long
life synthetic diaphragms used in mea-
surement chambers.

All material used for production of
M4Com meter were selected to provi-
de an outstanding endurance for
chemicals and gases allowed to use.
Measuring unit was designed to
prevent the reverse gas flow in cases
of meter tampering.

2- Casing

Meter casing has been manufactured
with steel material. Body has withs-
tand high performance in 500 hours
salt fog spray test.

The extreme strength of the case joint
is achieved by rolling the belt and com-
pressing the flanges into contact with
a seal and applied between the faces.
This forms a joint which is both gas-hi-
ght and fire-resistant.

3- Mechanical Transmission (Stuffing Box)

A stuffing box transmits the movement
of the measuring unit right to the tota-
lizer.

4- Totalizer (Record Mechanism)

Totalizer records the consumptions in
cubic meters. Totalizer comes with an
IP54 protection class. Two different
totalizer versions are provided depen-
ding on requirements.

C series totalizer type has been deve-
lopped in order to provide retrofittable
communication infrastructure in AMR
applications. The totalizer has inducti-
ve pulse production technology.
Thanks to this infrastructure, meter is
converted as a smart meter by using
plug & play wireless M-Bus, GPRS,
NB-IoT, LoRa based communication
modules.

The numarator type provides an LF
(low frequency) pulse by a magnet
fixed to index drum

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance procedures based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and strict controls throughout the manufactu- ring process ensure a very high quality level and reliable product in compliance with environmental standards.
